Project Context

The Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) project is an ILO project aimed at improving the productivity and working conditions of SMEs through consulting and training services. The program assists government agencies, training institutions, industry associations and trade unions in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and the Americas to deliver SCORE training to SMEs to help them develop cooperative working relationships where business owners and workers share benefits.

The core philosophy and mission of the International Labor Organization is to "advance social justice and promote decent work". The SCORE project aims to promote the sustainable development of enterprises by providing high-quality employment and ensuring that workers work in safe and healthy workplaces.

It is a common task faced by all countries in the world, especially developing countries, to strive to do a good job in enterprise safety production management, and it is also a slope that China's work safety production must climb. If we want to overcome a hurdle, cooperate with the International Labor Organization and introduce the SCORE project in China is a management method and a good mechanism to guide enterprises to establish safe development, self-discipline, self-motivation, and continuous improvement.

Zhejiang Jasan Group Co., Ltd.(hereby refer as"Jasan Group")was founded in 1994, is a professional engaged in knitwear research and development, design and manufacturing of production enterprises, for many well-known brands in the world and UniQlo, Decathlon and other well-known retailers in the world to provide professional cotton socks research and development, design and manufacturing and services. The company enjoys a high reputation in the global knitting industry,  and it is one of the world's largest cotton socks production enterprises.

Jasan Group had participated in Module One: Workplace cooperation improvement  and Module Seven: Gender equality in the SCORE program delivered by Leverage. And through the implementation of the project, the management and work of the enterprise had been greatly improved.

 
Content and Significance of the Project

Workplace cooperation improvement —— Building effective respect, trust and communication in the workplace

In today's rapidly changing world, "individuals" are the core of competitiveness. If the enterprise to continuously improve, everyone in the business needs to play an active role.

This module addresses the theme of 'Increased productivity through workplace collaboration' and is the basis for both the first module as well as the other modules. This module helps organizations unite employees under common goals and engages all employees in the process of continuous improvement.

After the training, business managers and employees will use the SCORE method to set the strategic direction for the company, identify a series of feasible workplace collaborative improvement projects, and establish a continuous measurement improvement system.

Gender equality —— Striking the balance between productivity improvement and corporate sustainability

Diversity and inclusion can improve business performance. Gender equality focuses on five key issues: equal power, inclusive hiring, equal pay for work of equal value, work environment and work-life harmony. 

Gender Equality aims to improve business performance by promoting gender equality in the workplace. This module covers six areas of action. After completing this module, enterprises can recognize the benefits of gender equality in the workplace, identify the main aspects of gender equality and their impact on the workplace, and create greater value for enterprises by promoting gender equality.

 
Process of the Project

Jasan Group set 5 co-workers to attend the training, they were from different departments and responsible for different kinds of work. The training covers equal voice, inclusive recruitment, equal pay for equal work, working environment, work-life balance, occupational safety and health from a gender perspective, etc; The training aims to help enterprises improve their management level, promote enterprises to respect workers' rights, and promote decent employment and gender equality; Committed to paying attention to the gender-related adverse impacts suffered by individual employees or groups at work, and helping to reduce, eliminate or prevent adverse impacts caused by gender inequality. For example, the company will take the initiative to adjust the position and working hours of pregnant female employees, especially front-line employees who work three shifts; In order to attract the best talent and avoid gender inequality in hiring, the company had published job descriptions for open positions without gender requirements; the women included in the management level grows to 80% and more.

Conclusion of the Project

In the process of project implementation, the company set up an EIT team consisting of senior leaders, department managers, factory directors and workshop directors. The team consisted of 13 people, including 4 male employees and 9 female employees. The team members have held 9 meetings and completed 83 improvement projects. Among them: the number of practices promoting gender equality was 4, and the number of facilities recommendations implemented for female employees was 1. 5 employee satisfaction surveys had been completed, and the employee satisfaction survey indicators have always remained above 99%.

After the implementation of the project, the company collected more than 100 suggestions from employees (74% of which were suggested by front-line employees), and checked more than 40 potential safety hazards (63% of which were checked by front-line employees), and identified 162 job safety risks .

Experience and understanding

Through the implementation of the SCORE project, the company fully realized the benefits of a more equal working environment, learned management and communication skills through the implementation of the project, made employees have a sense of ownership, narrowed the distance between employees and management, and enhanced their work responsibility.

During the implementation of the project, the employees of the company responded very strongly, and they put forward many opinions, and the results were obvious. The front-line employees were also greatly touched by the initial wait-and-see state when they saw the importance of the leaders to the opinions and suggestions put forward, so they were more willing to participate in the study and implementation of the project. While improving the working environment, improving the working order and enhancing the enthusiasm of the work, the enthusiasm of the employees was further enhanced, and the output and performance were finally improved.
